The Vision
The homeowners in North Kessler wanted to transform their basement into a bright, functional living area that could serve as an additional bedroom suite and comfortable gathering space. Their goal was to add natural light, improve safety around the staircase, and create a modern design that felt intentional and inviting. The plan included adding a bedroom, full bathroom, and living room area while incorporating smart storage solutions and contemporary finishes.
The Solution
Modern Touch Contracting brought the vision to life with a full basement renovation designed for both comfort and practicality. An egress window was installed to introduce natural light and meet safety requirements for the new bedroom space. New carpet was installed throughout the basement and stairs, while the stairway itself was enclosed and fitted with handrails to improve safety and reduce the risk of falls.
At the base of the stairs, a custom-built bench was added to provide convenient seating and hidden storage. The ceiling was left open and painted black, creating a modern industrial look that pairs well with the new LED lighting installed throughout the space. Pocket doors helped maximize usable square footage, while the bathroom was outfitted with custom shower glass and a large rain-style shower head for a spa-like feel.
The plumbing portion of the project required additional work, including breaking through the concrete floor to update and install proper drainage and a new sump pump system to ensure long-term performance and protection from moisture.
